Giffords Hosting Breakfast Roundtable with Rep. Horsford & Violence Intervention Workers on the Front Lines of Gun Violence Prevention

WHAT: Giffords will host a roundtable event to highlight the work violence intervention workers do to prevent gun violence in their communities. Representative Steven Horsford will also be joining.

Earlier this year, President Biden, proposed a historic $5 billion in funding for community violence intervention as part of his Build Back Better plan. As gun violence surges in cities across the country, it’s more important than ever that we invest in these critical programs. Earlier this week, Giffords and our partners released a report that includes a survey of 200 violence intervention workers and recommendations to make these community violence intervention work safer and more effective.

Community violence intervention (CVI) programs focus resources on the small fraction of the population at highest risk for engaging in deadly violence. When properly funded, CVI programs have contributed to major drops in gun violence in as little as two years. Violence intervention workers help identify and mediate potentially violent conflicts in their communities, respond to shootings, support victims and their families, and provide much-needed access to social services.
