Under 35? Enter Journalism Contest's award for young political writers

 
If you're under 35, the Sandy Hume Memorial Award for Excellence in Political Journalism, one of the categories in the National Press Club's annual Journalism Contest, is designed for you.
 
The award, which carries the winning prize of $750,  honors excellence and objectivity in political coverage by reporters 34 years old or younger. It is named in memory of Sandy Hume, the reporter for The Hill who broke the story of the aborted 1997 coup against former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

The award carries a winning prize of $750. But to enter, you'll need to submit your best work soon. Deadline for entries is is next Tuesday, June 30.

Entries can be one article or a series of no more than five articles on a single topic. Entrants must demonstrate analytical excellence and a clear knowledge of political issues and personalities. Entrants must be under 35 years old when the entry was published. Entrant’s date of birth must be included.
 
The cost of an entry is free for National Press Club members and $75 for non-members.
 
The overall Journalism Contest includes categories for consumer news, politics, online journalism, breaking news, photos, coverage of elderly issues, humor writing, stories about animals and their well-being, the media and other issues. Details of the awards can be found online.
 
The awards will be presented later this summer at the Club, depending on conditions. The deadline is June 30. Send your entry in online, or if you prefer, it can be mailed in to the Press Club, as long as it is mailed by the deadline.
