Journalism Institute kicks off end-of-year giving campaign on #GivingTuesday

This Giving Tuesday, the National Press Club Journalism Institute will open its end-of-year giving campaign with a goal of raising $5,000 to support its press freedom and programming efforts.

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, consider making a donation to the Institute, the National Press Club’s nonprofit affiliate. In 2019, Institute staff:

  • Coordinated more than 100 teaching hours with working professionals who shared their expertise with hundreds of program participants.Topics this year included increasing public trust, engaging diverse communities, digital storytelling and writing skills;
  • Organized an initiative in which dozens of volunteers visited every member of Congress in one day as part of the "Ask About Austin" campaign. The effort drew renewed attention and demand for action on behalf of Austin Tice, who remains the only U.S. journalist detained abroad, and
  • Founded the Fallen Journalists Memorial Foundation, which seeks to establish a permanent memorial in Washington to journalists who have died while pursuing the truth.

These initiatives, the beloved Fourth Estate Awards Dinner,  and Book Fair & Authors’ Night are just a few highlights of the Institute’s efforts to connect Club members and the public to tools, training, and networks that help journalists better serve their communities and democracy.

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good.

As you consider your end-of-year giving options, please keep in mind:

  • A $100 gift can help modernize the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library with resources and tools that aid journalists in doing work that informs their communities;
  • A $250 gift can help journalists attend training if their newsrooms don’t have funds for professional development, and
  • A $500 gift could help us underwrite press freedom efforts coordinated by the Institute.

Whatever you choose to give this year will help the Institute strengthen the connection between journalism and democracy for the public. Every gift makes a difference. You can make your tax-deductible donation here, or email executive director Julie Moos to discuss specific initiatives you’d like to fund.
