Postal Service Future

Mr. Runyon, who is retiring on June 1, spoke about the future of the United States Postal Service. He said that the monopoly of the postal service will become increasingly irrelevant as communication modes expand and that the service must adjust to these market-driven demands. He also said that Congress should free the agency from regulations to allow it to compete with other shipping companies by moving rates and offering more services. After his remarks, he took questions from the audience, several of which focused on accusations of monopoly behavior by James Kelly, the CEO of UPS.
