Predicting What Israel Will Do in an Unpredictable Middle East
World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder to offer insight and analysis as the Arab Spring becomes a memory and as Israel aims to “brand” itself before the international community
President of the World Jewish Congress and former U.S. ambassador Ronald S. Lauder will appear at a National Press Club Newsmaker at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, where he plans to warn that any effort by a drifting and unstable Egyptian government to abrogate its peace treaty with Israel will have disastrous and immediate consequences for the Middle East.
He also plans to discuss what he views as the implications of a disintegrating Syria, Iran’s response to economic sanctions and Israel’s communications failure to successfully project itself as the lone democracy in a region of despots, terrorists and radical fundamentalism.
International philanthropist, diplomat, public servant, entrepreneur, investor and patron of the arts, Lauder combines a commitment to his Jewish heritage with a mastery of business that reaches philanthropic and professional endeavors globally. In 1999, he was elected chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. His selection by the conference followed his election in 1997 as president of the Jewish National Fund. He is chairman of the International Public Committee of the World Jewish Restitution Organization, and in 2007 was elected to lead the World Jewish Congress.
The Newsmaker will be held in the Bloomberg Room on the 13th Floor of the National Press Building.
