IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman to Talk Taxes at National Press Club:
Top Tax Man to Discuss the Future of the Country’s Tax System, April 6
WASHINGTON, March 21, 2011 -- Now in his third year of a five-year term as Commissioner of Internal Revenue, Douglas H. Shulman, the 47th IRS commissioner, will speak at a National Press Club Speakers Luncheon on April 6. Mr. Shulman, who is responsible for collecting $2.4 trillion in tax revenues, will give a speech titled: “On the Horizon: A Vision for the Future of Our Tax System.”
So far in 2011, the IRS announced the details of a new voluntary disclosure program designed to get people hiding assets offshore back into the U.S. tax system.
“Our primary goal is to have long-term voluntary compliance with our nation’s tax laws,” Shulman said in February. “We owe that to the honest Americans who pay their taxes every year. After our last program closed in October 2009, we have continued to see interest from people looking for a way to get back into the tax system.”
Now, a little more than a week before the April 15 tax deadline, Shulman will talk about other plans for the tax system to come.
The April 6 Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks by Commissioner Shulman will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session. Advance reservations should be made through 202-662-7501 or by emailing [email protected]. Cost of luncheon admission is $18 for National Press Club members, $29 for their guests, and $36 for the general public. Tickets must be purchased at time of reservation.
