U.S. Journalism Crisis

Mr. Panetta delivered the luncheon speech at a forum on the state of U.S. journalism. He spoke about the challenges facing the media and ways to address them from his perspective as a newsmaker rather than a journalist. He examined the parallel public cynicism and skepticism toward elected officials and members of the press, as well as the evolution of this problem and what can be done about it, especially in relations between the press and elected officials. After his prepared remarks, he took questions from the audience.
