Medicare Origins
Mr. Ball, a member of the 1994 Advisory Council on Social Security, spoke at a conference on Medicare, which was created in 1965. He spoke about the origins of Medicare, the reasons for its creation, and its structure, which many criticize today, from his perspective as Social Security Commissioner during that time period. After his remarks, he took a few questions from the audience.
