Special Event
Sherlock Holmes Night at The National Press Club
Location: Reliable Source & Truman Lounge
This event is open only to members of The National Press Club & their guests.
Club House to become Sherlockian gala for an evening, December 7.
On December 7 the Club House of the National Press Club will be transformed into the cozy environs of 221B Baker Street and the more lively Punch Bowl pub as we celebrate Sherlock Holmes Night, replete with Holmesian décor, music, and drinks menu; a Victorian and Sherlock Holmes costume contest; a mystery scavenger hunt; a Holmesian pulp art exhibit; a themed fundraising raffle; and dinner and a showing of the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.
As fans of both Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie, and in anticipation of the release of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows on December 16, members of The National Press Club, in conjunction with members of The Baker Street Irregulars and local Sherlockian group The Red Circle, are planning a fun-filled night of mystery and excitement.
Dinner and Happy Hour drinks will begin at 5:30 p.m.; Sherlockian activities will begin at 6:00 p.m.; and Sherlock Holmes will be screened on all four TVs in the Truman Lounge, where members may order dinner or drinks if they wish. The film will begin at 7:00 p.m., and costume contest prizes, scavenger hunt prizes, and raffle prizes will be awarded and distributed during a brief intermission of the movie at 8:00 p.m.
Come to mix and mingle, to show off your costumes, to follow mysterious clues, to see the movie, and for a chance to win fabulous Sherlockian prizes, including signed Sherlockian anthologies and prize packs from Warner Bros. Pictures containing tickets to the December 13 Washington, D.C. advance screening of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
This event is co-sponsored by the Events, Young Members, and Book & Author Committees.
The cost for members and their guests to enter the world of Sherlock Holmes is a wink and a tip of your hat. No other fee is required.
