Bring the Whole Family for a Private Tour of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History & Enjoy a Free Lunch

On the morning of Saturday, November 5 the Events Committee will host a family-friendly tour of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History located at 12th and Constitution Avenue, NW. The tour and lunch, open to all ages, will explore history in a child-friendly setting. A narrated tour of the museum, beginning at 10:15 a.m., will be available from a museum staff member who is also a Press Club Member.

The Exhibits include:
- "Invention at Play" An entire play house of puzzles, matching games, fun problems and challenging activities for children from preschool to early teens. The sail board simulator is always popular.

- "The Bradford Doll House", A custom designed and built doll house on the third floor of the museum plays to the fanciful world of every child who has imagined living in a different time and place reduced to the size of your thumb.

-"Popular Culture” Featuring the original MUPPETS, built by creator Jim Henson. Created for a local Washington, DC TV Show on WRC-TV called "Sam and Friends." Kermit was the only character to make it to national attention and then world fame.

There are other exhibits on transportation, military history and the maritime history of the United States. "Julia Child's Kitchen," reconstructed from her house in Cambridge, Mass., is also on display.

The tour and lunch vouchers are free of charge to members and immediate family (significant others and children). Members may register guests in advance for $10 each, which will include the tour and lunch. Lunch will be served in the "Stars and Stripes Café” on the lower level of the museum.
