Reception
Please join us for a reception and view the groundbreaking war photography exhibit, "Conflict Zone," which supports injured journalists, photojournalists, and troops. The reception will be held at the National Press Club on Thursday, Aug. 25, 6-8 p.m., in the First Amendment Lounge. All are welcome.
This extraordinary photo exhibit is currently on display in the NPC lobby through Monday, Aug. 29, and it includes 40 photos from Conflict Zone's permanent collection. The exhibit also features a special display dedicated to Chris Hondros, the Getty Images photographer who died in April while on assignment in Libya. Hondros was a key supporter of the exhibit since its inception last year.
Conflict Zone was inspired by Joao Silva, the New York Times photographer, who lost both legs in a land mine blast in October 2010 in Afghanistan. Silva remains under medical care in Washington.
Brought together by the non-profit Independence Fund, Silva's colleagues from the press corps donated their images for this exhibit, which features some of the most celebrated combat journalists and photographers of this generation. No one associated with the project is being paid.
Please come out and support your fellow journalists, photojournalists, and troops. We are hoping for a big turnout and show of support for this worthy cause.
A list of contributors is on the Conflict Zone's website at www.conflictzone.org If you wish, you will also be able to donate to this cause at the reception.
