On Monday, Sept. 12 at 7 pm, the National Press Club's young members committee and director Susan Saladoff will present the documentary feature film Hot Coffee.
The movie, which had its broadcast premier on HBO on June 27, will begin at 7 pm and runs for 95 minutes. Saladoff will participate in a question-and-answer session following the screening.
One of the featured presentations at the 2011 AFI Silverdocs festival in Silver Spring, MD, called the "pre-eminent documentary festival in the United States" by Screen International, Hot Coffee investigates the various ways that corporate interests seek to block people from using the civil court system, using the infamous lawsuit against McDonald's for injures caused by hot coffee as a starting point. Everyone has heard of the McDonald's coffee case and think they know the underlying story, but Hot Coffee dives deeper than just the case and forces people to re-examine their long-held beliefs and whether they are valid.
