Obituary for William "Bill" Murphy

William "Bill" Murphy, 56, a National Press Club member since 2013 and CFO of Stars and Stripes, died Feb. 3 at his home in Dumfries, Va.

Although he worked on the business side of the publication, Stars and Stripes's publisher, Max Lederer, said Murphy's career had been with news organizations and that he was a strong advocate for freedom of the press and a proud member of the Club. He often enjoyed lunch at the Club's Reliable Source restaurant.
