Judge Lawrence S. Margolis, recent NPC member

Judge Lawrence S. Margolis, a recent NPC member and husband of long-time NPC member Doris Margolis, died Jan. 18 of a heart ailment.

A resident of Washington, D.C., he retired after more than 31 years as a judge on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He was born in Philadelphia in 1935 and joined the NPC in November 2016.

Margolis served as a U.S. Magistrate for D.C. from 1971 until 1981, when President Ronald Reagan appointed him to the Court of Federal Claims. He earned his law degree at George Washington University Law School in 1961, worked as a patent counsel, assistant corporate counsel for D.C., in private practice, as a Department of Justice trial attorney and assistant U.S. Attorney for D.C., before being appointed to the bench.

He was the recipient of numerous awards for professional and charitable activities, including a Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from GWU and Drexel University, where he earned an engineering degree, and Rotarian of the Decade from Rotary International.
