Top journalists to address impact of misinformation on media trust at town hall Thursday
Journalists from PBS, NPR and The Washington Post and the dean of the American University School of Communications will address the persistent problem of misinformation and the erosion of public trust in the media at "Trust Us," an in-person panel discussion on Thursday, June 30, at 6:30 p.m.
Moderator Ricardo Sandoval-Palos, public editor at PBS, will lead the discussion with NPR executive editor and vice president of news Terence Samuel, AU Dean Sam Fulwood III, and Washington Post media reporter Elahe Izadi.
The panelists will first seek to define the problem and then propose solutions and strategies for curtailing mis- and disinformation. Sandoval-Palos will also take questions from the audience.
The event is open to Club members, credentialed press and American University students. Admission is free but you must register in advance to reserve your seat. The program will be recorded for broadcast on PBS.org, the PBS and National Press Club YouTube channels. Registered guests are invited to a cocktail reception with a cash bar beginning at 5 p.m.
All visitors of the National Press Club must show proof of vaccination and photo ID upon entry.
