Sen. Murphy to Discuss Guns at Thursday Luncheon

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, the Connecticut Democrat who led a filibuster to force votes on gun control measures, will speak at a National Press Club luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 8.

The Second Amendment is a hot issue with both principal presidential candidates, with Donald Trump endorsed by the National Rifle Association and Hillary Clinton seeking expanded background checks for gun buyers.

Murphy's state is home to Newtown, where 20 Sandy Hook Elementary School students and six adults were gunned down in 2012. He sponsored legislation to improve background checks and make it illegal for those on the FBI terror watch list to buy a gun and waged a filibuster until Senate Republicans agreed to a vote.

The luncheon begins at 12:30 p.m. in the Holeman Lounge, with the speech and question and answer period scheduled for 1 p.m. The program will end at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $24 for Club members (members may purchase two tickets at that price) and $38 for all other nonmember tickets. Tickets may be purchased by going to this link. For questions, please email [email protected] or call 202-662-7501. Tickets must be paid for at the time of purchases.
