Reliable Source celebrates the season Dec. 12 with jazz and a buffet

National Press Club members and their guests are invited to dine at the Reliable Source's Annual Holiday Buffet and Jazz Night beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.

The event features the return of the Greater U Street Jazz Collective, a group that regularly performs at Reliable Source Jazz Night gatherings. The group will perform beginning at 6 p.m. in the Reliable Source restaurant, providing background music for the seasonal feast.

The price of the buffet is $40 for NPC members and $50 for nonmembers. Reservations are encouraged because this event has sold out in the past.

Free parking is available for Club members with a purchase of food and beverage of $25 or more at the Reliable Source. The parking garage is located at One Parking, 1325 G Street NW.

Holiday Buffet Menu

Soup:

  • Porcini and Chestnut Soup
    A creamy, smooth soup made with tasty mushrooms and sweet chestnuts, with a little bit of special herbs.

Salads:

  • Fennel and Blood Orange Salad
    Crunchy fennel and juicy orange slices with tiny pomegranate seeds, mixed with a light lemon dressing.
  • Honeycrisp Apple Salad
    Sweet apples, tangy cranberries, and crunchy walnuts with creamy goat cheese on a bed of fresh greens.
  • Mediterranean Fava Salad
    Crisp cucumbers, olives, tomatoes, and onions topped with feta cheese for a flavor from faraway places.

Entrees:

  • Grilled Smoked Pork Medallion
    Tender pork slices with a smoky BBQ sauce.
  • Slow-Roasted Salmon
    Soft salmon cooked with a hint of lemon and chives.
  • Herb-Butter Baked Chicken
    Golden chicken baked with yummy herbs and butter.
  • Beef Bourguignonne
    A fancy beef stew with carrots, mushrooms, and onions cooked in a tasty red wine sauce.

    Freshly sliced beef served with:

Sides:

  • Garlic Mashed Potatoes
    Creamy mashed potatoes with a touch of roasted garlic.

    Crunchy green asparagus with a sprinkle of lemon and crispy breadcrumbs.

Desserts:

Pies:

  • Apple Crostata — A flaky pastry filled with cinnamon apples and baked to golden perfection.
  • Cranberry — Tart cranberries baked into buttery pie crust.
  • Pecan — Sweet and nutty pie with a gooey caramel filling.

Cake and cookies:

  • Bûche de Noël (Yule log cake) — A chocolate cake that looks like a log, decorated for the holidays.
  • Holiday cookies — Fun cookies with bright icing and holiday shapes.
