Regional reporters are crucial to coverage of Washington; Club looking for their best work

The National Press Club wants to recognize the best work from 2020 produced by Washington regional reporters, in its national journalism contest.

These are the reporters who cover politicians and issues in Washington from a regional perspective for citizens of their states or regions.

This prize recognizes the work of Washington-based regional reporters who provide a clear understanding of events, issues and politics of importance to a city, state or region. This contest honors reporters who demonstrate excellence and versatility in covering Washington from a local angle.

The fee for an entry is $75; entries are free for Club members. The winner gets a prize of $750.

The entry deadline is April 15.

Entries can be up to 6 articles that demonstrate a diverse body of work. Entrants must be full-time professional reporters but may work for more than one publication. Articles must be printed in daily newspapers or online editions of daily papers.

No matter how you enter, the most important thing is to make sure you submit your best journalism. The awards will be presented at an awards event at the Club this summer.

In addition to the Washington regional reporting award, the contest includes awards for political reporting, international coverage, consumer reporting and online journalism. It also includes a group of awards for areas such as reporting on the welfare of animals, coverage of the journalism industry, newsletter journalism, the aviation industry, problems facing the elderly and humor writing.
