Read-a-thon of Gershkovich stories to call attention to his detention in Russia is underway; help by tweeting it

The National Press Club is helping to draw attention to Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich's wrongful detention in Russia by publicly reading his stories for a 24-hour period, which started at 8 a.m. today, July 19.

Evan GershkovichThe read-a-thon, taking place at the Club as well as at The Wall Street Journal’s London and Singapore bureaus, is streaming live on the Club's website, YouTube channel, and Twitter

You can show support for him and the read-a-thon by taking to social media to share the livestream on your personal accounts and use the hashtag #IStandWithEvan. A variety of media assets for this project is available for download.

In March 2023, Evan was arrested in Russia while on a reporting trip and accused of espionage, making him the first American journalist detained in Russia on such charges since the Cold War. The National Press Club and The Wall Street Journal have denounced the charges. President Joe Biden and news organizations around the world have joined the Journal in calling for Gershkovich’s immediate release.
