Following the 1972 McGovern campaign, writer Timothy Crouse wrote "The Boys on the Bus," the seminal book on campaign reporting. Heading into a new campaign for 2020, The National Press Club invited three reporters who were on that bus (and they weren’t all boys) to participate in a panel discussion of the book, how campaign journalism has and has not changed since then and why it holds important lessons for journalists today.

Connie Chung (CBS News), Carl Leubsdorf (Dallas Morning News) and Tom Oliphant (Boston Globe) shared their stories with moderator Edwin Grosvenor, publisher of American Heritage Magazine.
