Panel to focus on the cutting edge of multimedia news Sept. 16

The Freelance and Professional Development Committees of the National Press Club will join to host a panel discussion, “Digital: Cutting Edge Ventures in Multimedia Journalism,” on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Zenger Room.

This panel will bring together representatives from three major media outlets - Reuters, McClatchy and al Jazeera - that are building the latest in multimedia. Panelists will present their organizations’ work and discuss the foundation of their projects, the challenges they have encountered and what they have learned along the way.

Panelists are:

- Carmel Delshad, engagement producer for al Jazeera. She will discuss AJ+, a digital video news network and community that delivers news for a mobile-centric generation. The network meets its audience in every digital space, creating custom content for online social communities including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and the AJ+ mobile app.

- Dan Colarusso, executive editor of digital at Reuters, responsible for the direction of its consumer platforms including Reuters TV and Reuters.com. ReutersTV is a personalized service that delivers news on demand along with unfiltered live feeds of important world events. Its flagship program, “Reuters Now,” is based on insights and images from more than 2,500 Reuters journalists.

- Jon Forsythe, national video editor for McClatchy, who manages a team that is helping develop a network of digital video across McClatchy newspapers. The Washington-based team guides video efforts across the country, working with 1,700 journalists to produce and share compelling video.

Carmen Russell-Sluchansky, a freelance multimedia journalist and Freelance Committee member, will moderate. A Q&A session will follow.

The event is free for National Press Club members, $10 for non-members. To register, click here.
