NPC's own 'Mr. Baseball' Paul Dickson plans to discuss Bill Veeck at April 24 book event

Paul Dickson, the National Press Club's resident baseball expert plans to discuss his new book Bill Veeck: Baseball’s Greatest Maverick at a National Press Club Book and Author event April 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Dickson is the author of more tha 50 books, including The Dickson Baseball Dictionary, which is now in its 3rd printing. He also has written books about American history and his book The Bonus Army: An American Epic was the basis of a PBS documentary

Bill Veeck was one of the most colorful baseball owners in history. He integrated the American League when he signed Larry Doby in 1947. Some of his innovations, like putting player names on the uniform, became part of baseball while others, such as Disco Demolition Night, are best consigned to the dustbin of history.

Copies of the book will be available at the event. Each sale benefits the National Press Club Journalism Institute. The author will be signing copies of the book after his presentation.
