New Member ID Cards Required for Club Entry
Old fobs and previous Kastle mobile access will no longer work at the Club’s security gates. To enter the Club, you must now use your new National Press Club member ID card.
Important: New cards were printed and mailed to members in good standing (with no outstanding dues balance).
How to use your new card:
✔ Scan the barcode on the wall-mounted scanner next to lane 1.
✔ Tap your card on the top right of the turnstile to open the gate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to scan my member card every time I visit?
Yes, effective March 3, 2025, all members must scan their new card for entry — regardless of the reason or duration of your visit.
What about guests?
Your guests are always welcome! Please meet them at the entrance and check them in at the front desk. The Club will no longer issue QR codes for guest entry.
Will my current (old) member card still work?
No, only the new card with the barcode will work after March 3.
Why is the Club making this change?
We are updating our security measures to align with other buildings and membership organizations. As journalists face growing security concerns, this extra measure helps ensure the safety of our members and guests.
Additionally, this system allows the Club to track visit frequency, member engagement, and lapsed member attempts — helping us improve the overall member experience.
Is my data private?
Yes. The data is primarily reviewed in aggregate to assess Club-wide trends. Any individually identifiable information will be handled in strict confidence per our privacy policies.
Does the new card cost anything?
No, your first new card is free. If you need a replacement, there will be a $10 fee.
What happened to the colorful stickers?
We have discontinued them. The new card now serves as both a check-in mechanism and a security proxy, making stickers unnecessary.
Can’t the security team just recognize me?
While our staff strives to create a welcoming atmosphere, thousands of people pass through our gates daily. This system ensures smooth and consistent access for all members.
I haven’t received my new card — what should I do?
Your card may have been delayed due to an outdated address, payment issue, or outstanding balance. Please check your account online or email [email protected] so we can assist.
