National Press Club, global Austin Tice Virtual 5K hits mark

More than 100 registrants joined National Press Club colleagues to support abducted journalist Austin Tice and his family with D.C. area NPC members and others heading out to circle the National Mall – running and walking.

The fifth anniversary of the Austin Tice Virtual 5 K Race this Saturday, Nov. 8 , displayed perfect conditions in the nation’s capital and a stunning course.

Zach Cohen expressed the group’s perspective: “I’m glad we can all do our part to bring Austin home.  There’s a lot of work to do and every step counts.”

Austin Tice is the detained journalist who was abducted in Syria while on assignment 13 years ago. The Press Freedom Center has been working with the Tice family, pressing his case for years.  NPC Press Freedom Committee Chair Emily Wilkins declared that the Club “sticks with a case until the case is resolved.”

That commitment is shared by journalists and supporters both in the Washington, D.C. area who participated virtually, and in other cities like Houston, as well as globally, all united in the efforts of the Tice family to keep his case in the spotlight.
