Schoeff vowed that the Club would remain vigilant in defending journalists' ability to perform their jobs safely and without constraints, and that it would continue its efforts to bring illegally detained journalist Austin Tice home.
“Not only is journalism not a crime, it is integral to a free society and the democracy on which the United States has been built over the past 250 years,” Schoeff said in remarks in the Reliable Source following the announcement of the election results.Schoeff said he will work to strengthen the relationship between the Club and the National Press Club Journalism Institute. The Club will offer professional development for members to develop skills that will help them stay in journalism. It will also support members who are experiencing challenges in their careers while also exploring different ways the profession is evolving.
Mark Schoeff Jr. elected 119th National Press Club President
Club members on Friday elected CQ Roll Call financial services reporter Mark Schoeff Jr. as the Club's 119th president.
