Longtime newspaper man Charles Eischen, 47-year Club member, dies at 90
Charles Eischen, a long-time newspaperman who ran the city desk at the Marin Independent Journal and the Washington bureau for the San Francisco Examiner, died June 10, 2013 in Petaluma, Calif. He was 90.
Mr. Eischen, a National Press Club member from 1962 until 2009, was awarded the Bronze Star for service with the U.S. Army during World War II. He saw action during the Battle of the Bulge and was among the leading Army elements that took the Remagen Bridge in Germany.
Mr. Eischen graduated in 1949 from Stanford University with bachelor's and master's degrees. His journalism career included city editor of the Marin Independent Journal, in San Rafael, CA, bureau chief for the San Francisco Examiner, aerospace reporter for the San Diego Morning Union and Washington reporter for the Carpenter News Bureau, the Boston Herald Traveler, and the Honolulu Advertiser.
He is survived by 15 nieces and nephews and eight grand-nieces and nephews.
As per his wishes there will not be a service. Internment will be at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
