Learn to film vertical video for social media at July 23 workshop

The National Press Club Journalism Institute will host an in-person workshop, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 23, for journalists to learn how to film vertical videos that will help them reach broader audiences via social media.

In this hands-on workshop, creator-journalist Rahim Jessani — writer of The Creator Translator newsletter — will teach attendees how to script videos, master the basics of shooting content on a phone, and offer exclusive tips and tricks for making digestible videos for social media.

Tickets for the workshop are $35 for Press Club members and $45 for the general public. Space is limited, so be sure to register soon while tickets last. Purchase tickets here. Light refreshments will be provided.

By the end of the session, learners will have the tools to create their own short-form videos.

This half-day workshop begins with instruction from Jessani and direct feedback on audience questions before breaking out to practice filming vertical video. The group then will come back together to debrief and workshop their short videos. There will be opportunities to network with fellow creators and journalists as well.

Jessani is a Boston-based creator and the founder of Bottom Up Media, an independent journalism organization that produces and consults on creator journalism for the next generation of audiences. He also writes The Creator Translator, a monthly newsletter dedicated to helping experts and journalists create content and navigate the creator economy.
