Last chance to register for Nov. 5 Smithsonian tour and free lunch

Today is the last opportunity for National Press Club members to register for the Nov. 5 tour of the Smithsonian's American History Museum and free lunch.

The tour begins at 10 a.m. The museum is located at 12th and Constitution Avenue. Lunch will be served in the Stars and Stripes Café on the lower level of the museum.

Click here to register for the event. The passcode for the event is NPCKermit.

The tour and lunch, open to all ages, will explore history in a child-friendly setting. A narrated tour of the museum will be available from a museum staff member who is also a Club member.

The Exhibits include:

-- "Invention at Play" is an entire play house of puzzles, matching games, fun problems and challenging activities for children from preschool to early teens. The sail board simulator is always popular.

-- "The Bradford Doll House" is a custom-designed and built doll house plays to the fanciful world of every child who has imagined living in a different time and place reduced to the size of your thumb.

-- "Popular Culture” features the original Muppets, built by the late Jim Henson and created for a local Washington TV show on WRC-TV called "Sam and Friends." Kermit the Frog was the only character to make it to national attention and then world fame.

There are other exhibits on transportation, military history and the maritime history. "Julia Child's Kitchen," reconstructed from her house in Cambridge, Mass., is also on display.

The tour and lunch vouchers are free of charge to members and immediate family (significant others and children). Guests may attend the tour and lunch for $10 each.
