Journalists needed for Labor Department project

The U.S. Department of Labor is seeking journalists with at least five years experience to define the profession for the nation's occupations database.

RTI International is administering questionnaires on behalf of the Labor Department to gather the information and has asked National Press Club members to participate.

Chris Fine of RTI International says hearing from those in the field is vital to ensuring that the profession is presented accurately.

"We try and gather feedback from experts,” Fine told the Wire. "Obviously, the National Press Club is at the forefront for where the experts are."

Reporters and correspondents will be asked to share details of their profession for use in the O*Net database, a tool that helps people identify careers that match their skill sets. Club members selected for the project will be asked to complete four to five questionnaires regarding their specific skills, knowledge, education and training.

In order to form a comprehensive pool, as many members as possible are urged to apply. Those interested can contact Chris Fine at [email protected] or 877-233-7348, x112.
