Institute to host Strengthening Stories workshop on ledes, nut grafs, and self-editing, July 10
The National Press Club Journalism Institute will host a virtual, writing-focused workshop at noon ET on Friday, July 10, to help journalists improve their writing process through crafting ledes, identifying nut grafs, and self-editing.
Tickets for the Strengthening Stories workshop are $20 for National Press Club members and $25 for the general public. Register and purchase tickets here.
Both seasoned writers looking for some inspiration and early career journalists looking to jump start their storytelling will get back to the basics in this session led by Institute staff and journalists, Training Manager Elliot C. Williams and Executive Director Beth Francesco.
Participants can expect to learn practical tips to punch up languid ledes; ways to quickly identify and focus nut grafs; approaches to story structure to rethink — or reshape — the narrative; a new framework for self-editing that will improve or tighten copy; and additional tips for effective storytelling.
The workshop will include direct instruction as well as hands-on exercises in a group setting.
