Gilbert M. Grosvenor to talk about years of editing National Geographic Magazine, TODAY at 2 pm

Gilbert Grosvenor, the former chairman of the National Geographic Society and editor of its magazine, will talk about his half-century career with one of the world’s most recognizable magazines, at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the National Press Club's Grand Ballroom. Response has been high, so the event was moved from the Fourth Estate Room first, then the Holeman Lounge. Be sure to register in advance.

Gilbert M. Grosvenor was the third generation of his family to run the magazine, dating back to Gilbert H. Grosvenor, who began as an assistant editor in 1899. Gilbert H. Grosvenor joined the the National Press Club before 1914, and at one time in 1956, three generations of Grosvenors voted in a Club election.

Gilbert M. Grosvenor will be interviewed by his brother, Ed Grosvenor, a member of the Club’s History and Heritage Team, which is sponsoring the event. He is editor of American Heritage Magazine.

Grosvenor recently published “A Man of the World: My Life at National Geographic,” which describes audacious feats of exploration, from the successful hunt for the Titanic to Jane Goodall’s field studies.
