Celebrate journalism excellence and courage at the National Press Club's 42nd Annual Journalism Awards dinner on Wednesday, July 29. The dinner is a highlight of the Club's year.

The winners of the John Aubuchon Press Freedom Award will be honored at the dinner along with the best in competitive journalism.

The Aubuchon award recognizes those whose work has demonstrated the courage that lies at the heart of a free press. The club will give American freelance reporter Austin Tice, who has been detained in Syria since 2012, and Jason Rezaian, a Washington Post reporter detained in Iran, Aubuchon Press Freedom awards at the dinner. The club will also honor an Azerbaijani reporter jailed since December 2014, Khadija Ismayilova, with its 2015 Press Freedom Award for foreign journalists.

The winners of competition in consumer journalism, breaking news, political analysis, online journalism, humor writing, stories about the well-being of animals and news photos are among those being recognized in the Club’s annual journalism contest.

The awards dinner, held on Wednesday, July 29, begins with a reception in the Holeman Lounge at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and a program at 7 p.m. in the Ballroom. Tickets to this event are $50 per person.
