Freelance Committee panel today to explore custom content

The rise of custom content will be the topic of a discussion sponsored by the Freelance Committee from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in the Zenger Room.

Panelists will provide discuss the definition of custom content, custom publishing, native advertising, content marketing and any distinctions between the categories. The panel also will explore how this trend affects freelancers and what it all means to traditional journalism. A question and answer period will follow.

Other topics to be explored include possible conflict of interest issues, pay rates for writers, and suggestions for breaking into the market.

Participants include Chris Blose, executive content editor at McMurry/TMG; Brock N. Meeks, executive editor for Atlantic Media Strategies; and Andrew Seibert, chair of the Content Council and managing partner of Imprint, a custom publishing company. The Content Council is a trade organization for producers of branded content and content marketing in North America.

The panel will be moderated by Committee Chair Tam Harbert and member Scott Sowers, both of whom have written for clients who produce custom content.
