Former US Central Command communications director to discuss high-stakes messaging at American Legion Post 20 meeting on May 6
Col. Joe Buccino, U.S. Army (ret.), will discuss crisis communications at the next meeting of the National Press Club's affiliated American Legion Post 20, on Wednesday, May 6, at noon in the McClendon Room. All Press Club members are invited to this luncheon meeting.
Buccino is the author of the upcoming book, "When Every Word Counts: How to Earn Trust, Command Attention, and Communicate Clearly in Any Situation," to be released in October by Skyhorse Publishing.
He served as communications director at U.S. Central Command from April 2020 to August 2023. He advised senior defense leaders on strategic communication, crisis response, and public engagement. He spent nearly three decades in the Army. His postings include press secretary for Defense Secretary James Mattis and then Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan in 2018 and 2019.
This will be a hybrid meeting, with a Zoom component for those who live outside the Washington, D.C., area or who cannot get to the Press Club. The Zoom link is below. In-person attendees are asked to bring $30 in cash to cover the cost of the Reliable Source's lunch buffet, along with tax and tip.
