Former Sen. Bob Graham to discuss '28 pages' of classified 9/11 investigation and what should be revealed at Newsmaker, Aug. 31

Former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, D-Fla., who led the intelligence committee that investigated the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks in New York and Washington, will discuss the significance of the newly released 28-pages of classified document that show a strong link between the terrorists and the government of Saudi Arabia at a Newsmaker event at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31 in the National Press Club's White Room.

National Press Club President Thomas Burr will moderate.

Last month, the Obama Administration and Congress released a redacted version of 28 pages from the Congressional Joint Inquiry into the 9/11 attacks. These formerly classified documents reinforce the belief that the 19 hijackers—most of whom spoke little English, had limited education and had never before visited the United States—did not act alone in perpetrating the sophisticated 9/11 plot and suggest a strong link between those terrorists and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Saudi charities, and other Saudi stakeholders.

Graham, during his three terms representing Florida, served on the Intelligence Committee for 10 years and as its chair from 2001 to 2003. He also was the co-chair of the Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attack of September 11, 2001.

During Wednesday’s Newsmaker news conference Graham also will discuss the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), which is designed to help families of the nearly 3,000 victims of 9/11 seek justice against Saudi entities. JASTA could provide an additional window into the activities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Al Qaeda and the 19 hijackers. The Senate has passed JASTA unanimously, but the legislation has not come up for a vote in the House.

Since leaving the Senate, Graham, a former Florida governor, has spoken frequently about empowering citizens to be active participants in government rather than passive spectators. This is the subject of a soon-to-be-released book, co-authored with Chris Hand, entitled America, the Owner’s Manual: You Can Fight City Hall – and Win.
