Discover food photography from the chef's perspective, Wednesday
The National Press Club's Photography Team will hear how chefs create cuisine to be more visually interesting and attractive in its next meeting, open to all Club members, on Wednesday, July 24, at 12 noon in the Cosgrove Lounge.
Patrizio Sacchetto, the Club's culinary developer, will discuss how chefs consider factors such as ingredients, cooking techniques and presentation to enhance the visual appeal of their creations.

The July 24 program is offered only in-person in the Cosgrove Lounge. The meeting is free, but advance registration is required.
In addition, Sacchetto will prepare and display three sample dishes for participants to photograph -- not eat, sorry -- before the conversation:
- Tortellini with wild mushrooms
- Slow-cooked Maine lobster in saffron sabayon
- Roasted California lamb chop on a bed of ratatouille
The Photo Team meeting begins at 12 noon with lunch ordered and paid individually by participants from the Reliable Source. The sample dishes will be displayed for photography at 12:45 p.m., with the program getting underway about 1 p.m.
Sacchetto joined the Club staff in October 2023 after a 40-year career as a chef, executive chef, and cuisine director at fine dining establishments, restaurant groups, and hotels in Europe, the U.S., Hong Kong, and China. A native of Italy, Patrizio received a degree in culinary arts at Istituto di Istruzione Superiore E. Maggia in Stresa, Italy. He later went on to win several awards for his cuisine and in competitions, with his work featured in magazines including Gourmet, Esquire, and Sunset.
The Photography Team also announces that it has openings for volunteer photographers to shoot photos for the Club's newsletter, the Wire, and website. The openings are for the Headliners Luncheon with the Washington Commanders owners Josh Harris and Ted Brown on Monday, July 29, at 12:30 p.m. and the Concert for Austin Tice, with country singer Scotty Hasting on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 4:30 p.m.
Photographers receive free admission, photo credits on press.org, and the enduring gratitude of colleagues. If interested, contact Alan Kotok at [email protected].
The team reminds Club members that entries for this year's NPC photo exhibit begin Thursday, Aug. 1. Details and instructions are available online.
