Diplomats mingle with NPC members at ICC Press Attaché Mixer

Diplomats and embassy staff from dozens of countries met with members of the National Press Club on Nov. 2 at the International Correspondent's Committee Press Attaché Mixer.

The ICC's twice yearly event is aimed at bringing together members of Washington's diplomatic community and the Club's network of journalists with the intention of building relationships between the two groups.

Among the countries represented at the event were representatives of the embassies of Greece, Pakistan, Cyprus, Guatemala, Iraq, Norway, Serbia, Rwanda, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Taiwan and Rwanda, as well as from the Kurdistan regional government's representative office in the United States.

Speaking at the event, NPC President Eileen O' Reilly said that the club represents a "place where we can all meet together and get to know each other on an informal basis," which has the added benefit of aiding journalists with helpful background, context and contacts for their reporting.

Visiting embassy staff also toured the Club's facilities and were invited to join.

The event builds on the ICC's regular receptions held in collaboration with embassies in Washington.

Recent events have included evenings at the embassies or residences of Rwanda, Guatemala, Pakistan, the Philippines, Norway, Haiti, Rwanda and Uzbekistan.

The ICC's next event, with the embassy of Austria, will take place on Nov. 16.

In addition to the embassy evenings, the ICC regularly hosts events including happy hours, conferences, and film screenings, and produces multimedia content on foreign affairs topics.
