Club’s indie authors meeting goes on as planned April 9 -- virtually

The informal group of National Press Club members who are independent authors will gather as planned on Thursday, April 9, with a twist. Members will meet via video conference. The meeting will begin at its original start time of 9:30 a.m.

The special guest speaker is Anthony Shop, who will explain how authors can make good use of digital (sometimes called social) media. What better topic at this time of no face-to-face meetings? Shop is a Club member and a former member of the board of governors. He is also co-founder of the digital marketing agency Social Driver.

"We've got a good thing going that provides a real benefit for NPC members who choose to pursue independent authorship," said the group's convener, Ed Barks. "It's important for us to stay connected. If we need to meet virtually for a few months, so be it. I am confident that, like the Club itself, we will emerge even stronger once the crisis passes."

The group is open to new attendees. Club members may request an invitation by contacting Ed Barks at [email protected]. In order to be considered, you must indicate your experience with or interest in independent authorship (sometimes called self-publishing) when making your request. Independent authors manage their own publishing businesses rather than relying on agents and traditional publishing houses, gaining added control of their content and speed to market.
