Club's American Legion Post 20 tops goal of sponsoring 100 wreaths for National Cemetery
American Legion Post 20, affiliated with the National Press Club, has now topped its goal of sponsoring 100 wreaths to be placed during the Christmas season at the U.S. Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery in Washington. (Click to see the Post's page that shows the sponsorships are just over the goal, with time to add more.) The effort is part of the Wreaths Across America program, which honors veterans by placing wreaths at headstones in national cemeteries across the country.
Club members are invited to participate. You can sponsor one wreath for $17 — or as many more as you like. For every two we sponsor, one will be added free. If you sponsor a wreath, you do not have to be on hand to place it. Volunteers will do that for you. But if you want to volunteer to place wreaths on Dec. 14, you're welcome to do that, as well.
Post 20 has been part of the Press Club for more than a century. The post was founded at the urging of famed WWI General John J. Pershing, who was an associate member of the Club at the time.
To guarantee that wreaths are delivered on time, the cut-off date is Dec. 3. Read more about sponsoring a wreath.
