Club secretary explains vote-counting procedure

Votes in this year’s National Press Club election will be counted following a timed-tested procedure.

At its last meeting, the Board of Governors appointed an Election Board to count the votes and to deal with other ballot questions. Jonathan Salant, a former Club president, chairs the Election Board.

Other journalist members are Carole Feldman, Cary O'Reilly, Darlene Shields, Andrea Stone and Jack Williams. For the first time, two communicator members have been named to the Election Board to count communicator ballots. They are Anthony Shop and another communicator to be named.

The ballots are counted under the supervision of two directors of the congressional media galleries, who are honorary members of the Club.

All votes are counted twice.

A list of candidates, candidate statements and links to both the presidential and communicator debases may be found at http://press.org/membership/elections. You'll have to log in to access them.
