Club member Maria Recio wins SPJ Washington correspondence award

Congratulations to National Press Club member Maria Recio, correspondent for the Austin American-Statesman, whose 2024 work was recognized with the Washington Correspondence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi.

The judges referencing her story, "Texas elections tilt fast and furious" said in their citation: "The veteran Washington reporter examined multiple political races in Texas, a bellwether for a conservative leaning national mood paying particular and detailed attention to money in campaigns."

The SDX Awards are among the most prestigious and coveted awards given to journalists. Judges choose the winners from more than 1,000 entries. The SDX Awards date back to 1932, when the Society first honored six individuals for contributions to journalism. Now, more than 70 awards recognize the best in professional journalism in print/online, audio, television and more.
