Club member John Donnelly joins Standing Committee of Correspondents
National Press Club member John M. Donnelly has been selected for a seat on the Standing Committee of Correspondents.
The Standing Committee of Correspondents handles accreditation of reporters in the House and Senate daily press galleries and represents the media before Congress. Donnelly, CQ Roll Call reporter, begins his two-year term on Feb. 3.
Donnelly is a senior writer who covers defense and editor of the Executive Briefing-Defense, a CQ premium blog. He is a former chairman of the Club's Board of Governors and continues to serve on the board.
“John has a deep understanding of the challenges that congressional reporters face,” said CQ Roll Call Editorial Director Mike Mills. “He has earned the respect of his colleagues and will be a strong advocate for the Capitol Hill press corps. John M. Donnelly joined Congressional Quarterly in 2004 and is now a senior writer, covering defense and foreign policy issues in Congress and the Pentagon.
Prior to that, he worked at Defense Week, beginning in 1995, first as a reporter and later aseditor. His work at Defense Week netted him a bevy of awards for exclusive and investigative reporting.
He has authored numerous articles and op-eds for major publications, such as the Economist, the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times. He frequently has been a guest or been quoted on radio and TV news programs, from ABC World News Tonight to C-SPAN to National Public Radio toNBC’s Meet the Press.
He has a weekly spot on national security issues on NewsChannel 8 in the Washington metro area. Donnelly serves on the Standing Committee of Correspondents and has been an officer in the National Press Club since 2001. He is a graduate of the College of William & Mary in Virginia and Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C.
