Club closed tomorrow, but after the holiday dining, drinking await you at the reopened Reliable Source

The Reliable SourceIn observance of the Independence Day holiday, the National Press Club will be closed tomorrow, July 3.

When it resumes operations Monday, July 6, Club members and guests will to be able to eat and drink in the Reliable Source restaurant, which reopened June 23 under Phase 2 of the coronavirus pandemic rules issued by the District of Columbia. The restaurant had been closed since March 16 when the Club suspended in-person services in response to the D.C. rules

The reopening of the Reliable Source is the most notable relaxation of restrictions affecting Club members under Phase 2 from a less-liberal Phase 1 loosening June 9, when the Club first began to restore services.

Under the Phase 2 rules, members and guests may have breakfast, lunch and dinner and order drinks at tables in the Reliable Source. The number of tables has been reduced. The restaurant also is continuing to offer a takeout menu, which includes cocktails in Mason Jars.

Any member wishing to come to the Club to work, eat, or drink in the Reliable Source must make a reservation to visit the Club. Members should not come to the Club until their reservations have been confirmed.

Here are some house rules for the Reliable Source during Phase 2:

-No seating (or standing) is permitted at the bar.

-Menus are printed on paper and disposable (for one-time use) or scanned to mobile phones with a QR code.

-Disposable dishes and utensils will be offered and encouraged for use.-Masks should be in place until meals are served and should be restored when meals are finished.

As for other Club services, the Fourth Estate restaurant, gym and library remain closed and will reopen later. The Club will continue to limit to 30 the number of members who can visit the Club at any given time, but could increase capacity soon.

The Club plans to slowly restore other services, such as coffee breaks, happy hour cheese and fruit bar and Taco Night.
