The event, open to members and their guests only, will recognize Mekonen's 50 years of service to the Club. Generations of members have been greeted by Mekonen as they arrive for lunch, dinner and even Taco Night. Reserve your spot here.

Entertainment will be provided by a Club favorite, The Greater U Street Jazz Collective.

We will learn how Mekonen, a student from Ethiopia, arrived at the Club in January 1972, looking for work to get him through college. With the fall of Ethiopia’s Emperor Haile Selassie in 1974, Mekonen could not return home. Thus began a career that has stretched through 51 Club presidents.

Come salute the man who embodies what it means to be a Club. Bring your stories to roast and toast him, as we allow him to do something he rarely has done in all these years – sit down while we serve him.
