Books & Brunch to discuss 'Vigil' over lunch at the Club and via Zoom on April 15

The National Press Club Books & Brunch group will meet at noon Wednesday, April 15, to discuss "Vigil" by George Saunders.

This will be a hybrid meeting. The group will meet for lunch in the McClendon Room at the Reliable Source. Those people who cannot attend in person can access the meeting via Zoom. Please email Fay Iudicello at [email protected] on Monday to reserve your space or to request a Zoom link.

This satirical novel from the Booker Prize-winning author of "Lincoln in the Bardo" introduces us to Jill "Doll" Blaine, a spirit guide charged with ushering an oil tycoon into the afterlife. In K.J. Boone's final evening of life on Earth, he is visited by people alive and dead who demand a reckoning for his actions, but Boone is unrepentant. Through this lens, the book explores corporate greed, capitalism, climate change, and good and evil.

Planning ahead? The group will discuss "King of Kings: The Iranian Revolution: A Story of Hubris, Delusion and Catastrophic Miscalculation" by Scott Anderson at noon on Saturday, May 16, via Zoom.
