Books & Brunch to discuss satirical Russian novel "Monumental Propaganda," Saturday
Books & Brunch will meet via Zoom at noon on Saturday, Sept. 17, to discuss "Monumental Propaganda" by Vladimir Voinovich.
Russian writer and former Soviet dissident Voinovich's satirical novel, published in 2000, explores the Neo-Stalinist legacy residing in the subconscious of Russian citizens. The book centers on Aglaya Stepanovna Revkina, who is nostalgic about purges and gulags and longs for ideological purity. When the people in her village tear down the statue of Stalin, she rescues it from the scrap heap and installs it in her apartment.
Voinovich's writings forced him into exile after Soviet authorities stripped him of his citizenship.
To RSVP and receive a Zoom link, please email Fay Iudicello at [email protected] by Thursday, Sept. 15. Those who RSVP should expect to receive the invitation at 9 a.m. on Sept. 17.
Want to get a head start on the October non-fiction book? Books & Brunch will discuss "The Destructionists: The Twenty-Five Year Crack-Up of the Republican Party" by Dana Milbank at its meeting scheduled for noon on Oct. 15.
