Books & Brunch to discuss Ned Blackhawk's 'The Rediscovery of America" via Zoom on July 18

The National Press Club Books & Brunch group will meet at noon Saturday, July 18, to discuss Ned Blackhawk's "The Rediscovery of America: Native Peoples and the Unmaking of U.S. History," winner of the 2023 National Book Award.

All members and their guests are welcome to participate. To receive a Zoom link, please email Fay Iudicello [email protected] by Thursday, July 16. Those who RSVP should expect to receive the invitation at 9 a.m. on July 18.

Blackhawk, a historian at Yale and a member of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone, retells five centuries of American history by weaving together Native and non-Native histories from the Spanish explorers to the Native American movement for self-determination in the late 20th century, and demonstrating Native American centrality to every century of US history. The Wall Street Journal described the book as "an eloquent and comprehensive telling of how the history of the United States and that of the American Indians since the 1500s are the same story."

Planning ahead? The group will discuss "Seascraper" by Benjamin Wood at its meeting in August.
