Policy Makers Using Solution-Based Journalism To Effect Change

15

In this episode of Update-1, NPC member Shannon Fisher interviews award-winning journalist Daniel Heimpel about solution-based journalism. Heimpel created the Journalism for Social Change program at the University of California, Berkeley, which is a unique collaboration between UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, School of Social Welfare, and Goldman School of Public Policy. This interdisciplinary program has grown so popular that it is frequently offered as a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), free to the public via EdX. The class trains policy makers and social workers to use journalism to effect change, and it teaches journalists to approach public policy from a solution-based perspective.
