Annual Civil War battlefield tour to go to Antietam June 2

The Club’s annual Civil War battlefield trip will be Saturday, June 2, to Antietam National Battlefield in Maryland, where the bloodiest one-day battle in American history took place on September 17, 1862.

Club members and guests will depart by bus from the F Street side of the National Press Building at 9 a.m., returning at approximately 5 p.m. There is no charge, but Club members are limited to one guest each. Lunch will be provided.

Reservations are required and can be made with Richard Meyer of the Travel Committee at (703)356-6884.

Our guide for the trip will be Civil War expert Garry Adelman, historian with the Civil War Trust. He is author, co-author or editor of more than dozen books on the Civil War, including "Antietam Then and Now." Adelman guided the Club’s 2006 and 2007 trips to Antietam and Gettysburg, respectively.

This is the second in the Club’s sesquicentennial visits to Civil War battlefields, following on last year’s trip to Manassas in commemoration of the 1861 First Battle of Manassas. The Club hopes to visit Gettysburg in 2013.

As in past years, the trip is being hosted by the Civil War Trust as part of a long-standing reciprocal arrangement with the Club.
