American Legion Post 20 will honor Vietnam veterans and legendary Vietnam journalist at April 9 luncheon
Vietnam veterans will be honored at the April 9 luncheon meeting of American Legion Post 20, which is affiliated with the National Press Club.
The meeting will take place at noon in the McClendon Room. The guest speaker will be Maj. Gen.Edward J. Chrystal, Jr., director of the U.S. Vietnam War Commemoration. Chrystal will have pins for Vietnam veterans. In addition, Post 20 2nd Vice Commander Kevin Wensing will present a framed tribute honoring legendary reporter Joe Galloway, who was posthumously awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Biden.
The Army awarded Galloway a Bronze Star as a civilian for his bravery during the Battle of Ia Drang, a story he told with Gen. Hal Moore in the book, "We Were Soldiers Once and Young," which was made into an award-winning feature film.
This will be a hybrid meeting with a Zoom component for those who live outside the DC area or who cannot get to the Press Club. The Zoom link is posted below. All club members are invited. Attendees are asked to bring cash, to pay for the luncheon in a single bill.
Post 20 was founded in 1919 at the suggestion of famed World War I GenJohn J. Pershing, who was an associate member of the Press Club at the time.
